Carew Castle
Carew Castle has a history spanning 2000 years. Set in a stunning location,
overlooking a 23 acre millpond, the castle displays the development from a
Norman fortification to an Elizabethan country house. The site incorporates an
impressive 11th century Celtic Cross, the only restored Tidal Mill in Wales, a
medieval bridge and a picnic area all linked by a delightful mile roundwalk.
Castell Henllys
Castell Henllys hosts one of the largest training excavations in Britain. For 6 weeks every summer, students from all over the world join in the dig to learn the principles and methods of archaeological excavation directed by the University of York.
Dylan Thomas
Dylan Thomas was one of the greatest writers from Wales and a giant in the 20th
century. The most renowned in a school of Anglo-Welsh writers that flourished
during that period. He made particular use of the, then, new mass media
technologies of broadcasting and recording. Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea but
his family roots were in Carmarthenshire and it was this county that provided
him with a constant source of inspiration. He lived at the Boathouse for the
last four years of his life during which time many major pieces of work were
written - including Under Milk Wood.
Manorbier Castle
Manorbier Castle sits majestically above the adjacent roadway which leads to the main entrance. Sheltered by trees and shrubbery, the castle suddenly pops out before you when you set foot on the grounds. Ahead is the outer bailey, with its fascinating relics from the English Civil War: the redan, a series of earthen embankments and ditches which were reinforced with stone, and would have impeded the advance of the enemy. On your left, the rectangular great gatehouse is a lovely spectacle. Rather simple in design, it projects over the surrounding ditch and beckons entry.
Pembroke Castle
Many schools visit Pembroke Castle each year. Without exception, all parties are
delighted with the guided tours and pupil participation. Each tour is adapted to
the needs of groups of varying ages and abilities. The castle and its
underground cavern, provide opportunities for pupils to search for primary
sources of evidence, to help prove how the use of the site has changed since the
Middle Stone Age.
Silent World
Children are expected to have experience of a wide variety of living things. Silent world offer a professional and well planned approach to achieving this, using the several hundred species of British marine and freshwater animals, exotic fish, reptiles and amphibians displayed, as far as possible, in their natural environment.
